Will the architecture of tomorrow generate the power of the 21st century? Is transforming the trajectory of climate change an aim within the domain of the architect? What if the cost of operating a building on the scale of the high rise were zero? Would it bring the cost of living in our cities down? In reality, the cost for living space and energy in the world’s great cities and financial centers has increased so much over the past five years that many municipal councils now value the corporation over the citizen. A robust and increasing global population and the development of nations places high demands on energy production, yet governments and industries are slow to respond, with sustainable energy still only accounting for a small portion of all global energy production. The question we ask is: What if the solution lies not with big energy production, but in the way we conceive of buildings themselves?
